1) Rendezvous:
The first obstacle is to cross is some floating platforms. Firstly a U-shaped platform, then two separate round ones. One of these round platforms is small, and the other is a lot bigger. Finally there's a big rectangular one.

2) The Walls:
These are simply two walls that need to be climbed over, the first half the size of the second. The second wall has a rope to help.

3) Pipe Slider:
One of the pair has to slide down a rail from the top of the wall, by holding onto a pipe, and land on a floating raft.

4) Horse Volt:
The other person in the pair then volts over a horse onto a big floating platform. If they don't volt over properly then they incur a 10 second penalty.

5) Geographical Parley:
On a big screen is a map of Japan with the different prefectures all randomly being highlighted in red. One of the pair stops this by pressing a button. The other has to name the prefecture that the red highlight has been stopped on. If they name it right they can move on, but if they're wrong a trap door opens up to drop them into the water.

6) Island Escape:
One member of the pair has to jump from a height onto a round platform floating on the water below. If they manage to land on it and stay balanced then the other person has to drag them to the other side of the pool using a rope.

7) Stilt Walk:
Here there's a balancing beam, over water, with a gap in the middle. One of the pair has to stand on a trap door and use a long pole to flip down a hatch on the beam to close the gap in the middle. Now the other has to walk across the beam on stilts. If the stilt walker falls off, or puts their foot down on the beam, they lose and the trap door is opened to drop their team mate into the water. This time contestants can also choose to use a unicycle or pogo stick to cross the beam, as well as the stilts.

8) Horizontal Bar:
To cross another pool of water the pair have to move along a horizontal bar, above the water, using their hands.

9) Final Slope:
At the top of a tall wall is the button to stop the clock. The contestants have to run up a slope to get to the top. Once up they must press the button together.
End of stage

Throughout this stage the pairs are connected together by an elastic rope.

1) Great Equilibrium 2:
The pair has to run across a sloped curved wall to the other side without sliding into the water. There are ropes to help, but they take it slow to use these then they'll lose time.

2) Each to His Own Way:
Here there’s an oval shaped balance beam over the water. One person has to walk down one side, and one down the other, while the elastic rope tying them together is stretched over the middle pulling them both inwards.

3) Path of the Hammers:
The pairs have to cross a winding path platform above the water. Along the way are three giant swinging hammers to knock them off, so these need to be avoided with good timing.

4) Maths Parley:
The mental challenge of this stage. The contestants stop two flashing number generators by hitting a button. They then have to add these numbers together and enter the answer using the keypad. If they get it right they can continue, but if they're wrong a trap door opens and they're both dropped in the water.

5) Rope Exercise:
Both contestants swing across the water using individual ropes and have to land on a big floating mat. They have to swing together at the same time as they are tied together.

6) Obstacle Path:
These are two beams, parallel to each other, over water. On top of each beam there are three horizontal bars on springs. The pair has to cross these, one person on each beam, by stepping over the bars as they get to them.

7) Escape Pole:
At the top of this vertical pole is the button. Each pair has to climb up the pole and hit the button together to stop the clock.
End of stage

1) Bicycle Tandem:
Each pair has to ride a bike across a long narrow beam over the water. There are two seats and two sets of pedals so both members of the pair have to cycle. If they cross the beam without falling off or touching it with their feat they move onto the Final Viking.
End of stage

The Family Final Viking is built just off the shore of Okinawa Beach.

1) Parallel Pathways:
To start the pair have to walk along two balance beams (one constant on each). Half way through each beam is a vertical column that has to be stepped around.

2) Swing Mast:
One of the contestants (the parent if it's a parent and child pairing) has to throw a rope and try to get it to wrap around a bar above. They need to get it wrapped round securely enough so they can use the rope to swing and land on the finishing platform floating in the water.

3) Victory Swing:
Once the contestant has used the Swing Mast to land on the floating mat, the other member of the pair has to hold onto a trapeze to swing and reach the floating finishing mat. The contestant already on the mat has to catch them so they land safely to finish the course.
End of the first part of this stage

In this competition there was an extra challenge for all families who completed the Final Viking.

1) Final Final Viking:
One member of a pair has to move along bars in the air by hanging on with their hands. There are a certain amount of fixed yellow bars, loose silver ones, and big gaps. As the hanger reaches a gap the other member of the pair has to pick up the loose bars that have been passed and lay them over the gap, so the hanger can move on. There is a gap between the final bar and the finishing platform, so the hanger has to build up momentum to swing off and reach the goal. There are a resting places along the way, but the fastest family to complete this and then swing onto the final platform are the ultimate winners.
